NELSON GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

  1. That a substantial punt, capable of carrying
    six tons, be maintained on the river, in good
    working order, during the term of this Pro-
    tection.

  2. That competent ferrymen shall be always in
    attendance, and the ferry conducted at all
    times to the satisfaction of the Warden of the
    district.

  3. That the approaches to the punt on each side
    of the river Buller be made to the satisfaction
    of the Warden of the district, and maintained
    in passable order during the term of this
    protection.

  4. That the tolls to be charged for the use of the
    punt shall not exceed the following, viz.:β€”

s. d.
Passengers, each - - - - 1 0
Horses and Cattle, first 12, each - - 3 0
" all over 12, each - 2 6
Sheep, first 40, each - - - 0 6
" all over 40, each - - 0 3
Government Officers, including police,
road overseers, postmen, and laborers,
when on duty - - - - free.

  1. The Warden of the district may, on being
    satisfied that the ferry is not conducted in an
    efficient manner, and in accordance with these
    conditions, suspend the operation of this pro-
    tection until the matter of complaint be
    removed; and if the matter of complaint be
    not removed within a reasonable time, the
    Superintendent shall have the power to cancel
    this protection.

  2. All regulations which may at any time be
    brought into force under section 13 of the
    "Goldfields Act, 1866," shall be deemed ap-
    plicable to this protection, as if it had been
    granted under the same.

  3. This protection shall not be transferred without
    the sanction in writing of the Superintendent.

  4. This protection shall not affect the right of the
    Government to erect or grant protection for
    any bridge upon the Buller river.
