Superintendent's Office, Nelson,
March 31, 1874.
PROTECTION is hereby granted under the provisions of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," to WALTER ABERNETHY, for the term of Three years from the date hereof, for a Punt Ferry across the Buller River, at the end of Bentham-street, Westport, subject to the following conditions, viz.:β

That a substantial Punt, capable of carrying Twelve tons, be maintained on the river, in good working order, during the term of this protection.

That competent ferrymen be always in attendance, and the ferry conducted, at all times, to the satisfaction of the Warden of the district.

That the punt wire, or apparatus required for working the punt, shall not interfere with shipping or with the navigation of the river.

This protection shall extend from the mouth of the River Buller to one mile above Bentham-street, and shall not interfere with, or prevent any boats plying for hire on any part of the river.

That the tolls to be charged for the use of the punt shall not exceed the following, viz.:β

| Horses required by any of the above mentioned Government Officers or persons | 1 0 |

The Warden of the district may, on being satisfied that the ferry is not conducted in an efficient manner, and in accordance with these conditions, suspend the operation of this protection until the matter of complaint be removed; and if the matter of complaint be not removed within a reasonable time, the Superintendent shall have the power to cancel this protection.

All Regulations which may at any time be brought into force under section 13 of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," shall be deemed applicable to this protection as if it had been granted under the same.

This protection shall not be transferred without the sanction of the Superintendent.

This protection shall not affect the right of the Government to erect or grant protection for any Bridge within the protected limits.

To the owner, or reputed owner, lessee, or reputed lessee, and occupier of Section 102, square 5, Motupiko Valley.
TAKE NOTICE that the maps, specifications, and other papers relating to a road which the Upper Motueka Valley District Highway Board propose to take over the above mentioned section, are deposited for inspection at Mr. C. Orchard's, Upper Motueka Valley; that the purpose of the said maps, specifications, and other papers, is to define the site, admeasurements, and mode of taking the said road, and that all persons affected by the proposed road are hereby called upon to set forth in writing, addressed to the Upper Motueka Valley Highway Board, within forty days from the publication hereof in the Gazette all objections which they may have to the said Road.
