PROCLAMATION.
By his Honor OSWALD CURTIS, Superintendent of
the Province of Nelson, in the Colony of New
Zealand, &c. &c.
WHEREAS, by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand intituled "The Highway
Boards Empowering Act, 1871," it is enacted that the
Superintendent of any province upon the recommen-
dation of the Provincial Council may from time to
time by proclamation declare that any or all of the
parts of the above recited Act, numbered two, three,
four, five, six, and seven, shall extend and apply to
any Highway District constituted or to be constituted
by or under any Provincial Act heretofore or hereafter
to be passed, or to the inhabitants, ratepayers, or
governing body of any such district as the case may
require, and upon such day as shall be fixed in and by
any such proclamation the part or parts therein speci-
fied, shall be in force in and as to such Highway
District, or with regard to the inhabitants, ratepayers,
or governing body of such district as the case may
require : AND WHEREAS the Provincial Council of the
said Province of Nelson have recommended that parts
two, three, four, five, six, and seven of the said recited
Act should be declared to extend and apply to any
district constituted or to be constituted by or under
any Provincial Act heretofore or hereafter to be
passed, and to the inhabitants, ratepayers, and
governing body of such district as the case may
require.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, OSWALD CURTIS, Superin-
tendent of the said Province of Nelson, in pursuance
and exercise of the power and authority in me vested
in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that
parts two, three, four, five, six, and seven of the
"Highway Boards Empowering Act, 1871," shall
extend and apply to the District of Hampden as con-
stituted under "The Nelson Highways Act, 1872,"
and to the undermentioned districts, as constituted
under "The Goldfields Local Revenues Act, 1873,"
and "The Goldfields Local Revenues Act Amendment
Act, 1874," and to the inhabitants, ratepayers, and
governing bodies of those districts from and after the
date hereof, namely :—
Cobden
Buller
Ahaura
Charleston
Inangahua
Lyell
Given under my hand, and issued under the
Public Seal of the Province of Nelson, this
Twentieth day of February, in the year of
our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and
seventy-four.

PROCLAMATION.
By his Honor OSWALD CURTIS, Superintendent of
the Province of Nelson, in the Colony of New
Zealand, &c. &c.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand, intituled, "The Nelson
Special Settlements Act, 1872," it is provided that it
shall be lawful for the Superintendent of the Province
of Nelson, with the advice of his Executive Council,
by Proclamation in the Government Gazette of the
said Province, to set aside out of the Waste Lands of
the Crown within the said Province any block or
blocks of Land for the purpose of SPECIAL SETTLE-
MENT : Now therefore I, OSWALD CURTIS, Superinten-
dent of the Province of Nelson, with the advice of my
Executive Council, hereby proclaim and set aside for
the purpose of Special Settlement the blocks of land
hereinafter described, viz. :—
OWEN BLOCK.
All that block of land on the north side of the
river Buller, containing 10,000 acres or thereabouts,
the boundaries being as follows :—
Commencing at the Buller river at a point near
Peg 260 on Mr. Foster's traverse, and
running in a northerly direction from the
river Buller for a distance of six miles,
thence by a line west magnetic for a distance
of four miles, thence by a line running in a
southerly direction to the mouth of a small
stream running into the river Buller at about
fifty chains west of the river Owen, and
thence by the bank of the river Buller to the
point near said Peg 260, where this bound-
ary commences.
MARUIA BLOCK.
All that block of land on the south side of the
river Buller, containing 21,000 acres or thereabouts,
the boundaries being as follows :—
Commencing at a point on the bank of the river
Maruia, four miles below the junction of the
river Warwick with the river Maruia, thence
east for a distance of about three miles to the
bank of the river Warwick, at its junction
with the river Deception; thence south for a
distance of eleven miles; thence west for a
distance of two miles, and thence by a
straight line to a point on the bank of the
river Maruia where this boundary com-
mences.
Given under my hand, and issued under the
Public Seal of the Province of Nelson, this
Twentieth day of February, in the year of
our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and
seventy-four.
