a Visiting Justice of the Nelson Gaol, in the place of D. Rough, Esq., resigned.

a Member of the Committee of Management of the Nelson Hospital, in the place of D. Rough, Esq., resigned.

IT is hereby notified that it is intended after the expiration of two months from the date hereof, to grant a Lease for Goldmining purposes of the Crown Land within the District of the Nelson South-West Goldfields, hereinafter described, viz.—

A Block of Land containing three acres, more or less, situated at Ballarat Hill, Charleston.

THE Ratepayers of the Educational District of Westport having neglected, on the day appointed for the purpose, to elect Six Persons to form a Local Committee of Education for that District, the Superintendent directs it to be notified that, in accordance with the provisions of Clause 10 of the Education Act, 1863, he has appointed the following persons to form a Local Committee of Education for the District of Westport, viz :—

The Nelson Provincial Council Buildings (depicted) were constructed beginning with the laying of the foundation stone on 26 August 1859, with the first Council meeting held there on 30 April 1861.

The buildings served Nelson for over a century before being demolished on 12 September 1969.
