IT is hereby notified that the Superintendent has refused to grant a goldmining lease applied for by John B. Moore and George Moore, for the block of land hereinafter described, viz :β
A block of land containing two acres three roods and twenty-nine perches, more or less, situated at Darkies Creek, Charleston.

IT is hereby notified that it is intended after the expiration of two months from the date hereof to grant Leases for goldmining purposes of the Crown Land within the district of the Nelson South-west Goldfields, hereinafter described, viz :β

A block of land, containing seven acres, more or less, situated on Dawson's and Boatman's Terraces, Charleston, applied for by Charles Robertson. (No 120).

A block of land containing four acres two roods and thirty-four perches, more or less, situated on the west side of the road from Charleston to Westport, Charleston district, applied for by Charles Bowater and others. (No. 124).

A block of land containing six acres two roods and sixteen perches, more or less, situated at Candlelight Flat, Charleston, applied for by Nicholas Barry and others. (No. 125.)

NELSON CITY LOAN FOR GAS AND WATERWORKS.
TENDERS will be received at this Office until Monday, the 15th day of April, 1872, for Debentures, with Coupons attached, to the amount of FIFTEEN THOUSAND POUNDS, to be issued under the authority of the "Nelson City Loan Act, 1871."
Each Debenture will be for the sum of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS, bearing SIX PER CENT. interest, and will be issued in the form, and subject in all respects to the conditions as to security and payment of interest, provided in the above-mentioned Act.
The Debentures will be made Payable in THIRTY YEARS from the date of issue, with interest at the above-mentioned rate, payable half-yearly at this Office.
Tenders may be made for one or more Debentures, and must be forwarded under cover, addressed to the PROVINCIAL TREASURER, Nelson, and marked "Tender for Debentures."
The highest or any Tender not necessarily accepted.

PROTECTION is hereby GRANTED, subject to the following conditions, for three years from this date, under the provisions of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," to WILLIAM COURTNEY, of Westport, Contractor, for a TRAMWAY to be constructed by him from Reefton to Black's Point, Inangahua district, and the said William Courtney is hereby authorised, subject to the following conditions, to charge the tolls hereinafter specified, during the term of this protection.

Situation of line to be approved by the Provincial Engineer.

The tramway to be commenced within one month from this date, and completed, to the satisfaction of the Provincial Engineer, by the Thirtieth day of June, 1872, and must be kept in good working order and repair during the whole of the term to the satisfaction of the Provincial Engineer.

That a property-constructed truck shall be run each way at least eight times every day, except Sundays, at regular stated hours, between the hours of eight o'clock a.m. and eight o'clock p.m.

That a good lamp, properly lighted, shall be carried in front of the truck when running on dark nights.

The tolls shall not exceed the following, viz:
For every passenger between the hours of eight o'clock, a.m., and eight o'clock, p.m., One Shilling; and from eight p.m. to eight a.m., One Shilling and Sixpence; for every ton of goods, Ten Shillings. -
The Superintendent reserves the right to cancel this protection at any time during the said term of three years, if any of the above conditions are not carried out to his satisfaction, and in the event of any complaint arising, the Superintendent may suspend the operation of this protection until the matter has been enquired into and decided upon.

Should this protection be cancelled, as provided by clause 6 hereof, the said tramway shall become the property of the Provincial Government, and the Superintendent shall have the right to immediate possession thereof; and the said William Courtney shall not be entitled to any compensation or payment for the same.

The Superintendent to have the right at any time of taking the tramway at a valuation to be made in the usual way, in which case the valuation of the work only to be taken exclusive of good will.

No tolls shall be recoverable unless it be proved to the satisfaction of the Warden that the tramway is in fair working order.

The tramway shall be at all times open to the public, free of charge, as a footpath.

This protection shall not be transferred or assigned without the sanction of the Superintendent.
