THE Protection granted to John Maunder Langdon,
under the "Goldfields Act 1866," for a Punt
Ferry across the Buller River, published in the Nelson
Government Gazette, No. 18, 1871, is hereby CAN-
CELLED.

PROTECTION is hereby Granted, under the
provisions of the Goldfields Act, 1866, to
GILMER BROTHERS, for the term of Three years from
the date hereof, for a Punt Ferry across the Buller
River, near the telegraph line, subject to the following
conditions, viz:—

That a substantial Punt, capable of carrying
Twelve tons, be placed on the river, in good
working order, within two months from this
date, and maintained in good working order
during the term of this protection. -
That competent ferrymen be always in atten-
dance, and the ferry conducted, at all times,
to the satisfaction of the Warden of the
district. -
That the Punt wire, or apparatus required
for working the Punt, shall not interfere
with shipping or with the navigation of the
river. -
This protection shall not extend beyond 2½
miles from the mouth of the River Buller,
and shall not interfere with, or prevent any
boats plying for hire on any part of the
river. -
That the tolls to be charged for the use of the
Punt shall not exceed the following, viz:—

Foot passengers, each . . . . 0 6
Horse and rider . . . . . 2 6
Loaded Pack-horse . . . . . 2 6
Cattle, each . . . . . . 1 0
Sheep, per hundred . . . . . 25 0
Horse and Dray, loaded . . . . 5 0
Horse and Dray, empty . . . . 3 0
Goods, per ton, not on a dray . . . 2 6
Government Officers, including Police,
Road Overseers, Postmen, and
Laborers, when on duty . . . . Free.
Horses required by any of the above
mentioned Government Officers or
persons . . . . . . . Free.

The Warden of the district may, on being
satisfied that the ferry is not conducted in an
efficient manner, and in accordance with
these conditions, suspend the operation of
this protection until the matter of complaint
be removed ; and if the matter of complaint
be not removed within a reasonable time, the
Superintendent shall have the power to
cancel this protection. -
All Regulations which may at any time be
brought into force under section 13 of "The
Goldfields Act, 1866," shall be deemed
applicable to this protection as if it had been
granted under the same. -
This protection shall not be transferred with-
out the sanction of the Superintendent. -
This protection shall not affect the right of
the Government to erect or grant protection
for any Bridge within the protected limits.

to grant Leases for Goldmining purposes of the Crown
Land, within the District of the Nelson South-west
Goldfields, hereinafter described, viz :—

A block of land containing three acres, more
or less, situated at Daylesford Terrace,
Brighton, applied for by Michael O'Brien
(Band of Hope Goldmining Company). -
A block of land containing three acres, more
or less, situated at Kelly's Terrace, Brighton,
applied for by John McNeill (Hit or Miss
Company).

IT is hereby notified that it is intended, after the
expiration of two months from the date hereof,
to grant Leases for Goldmining purposes of the Crown
Land within the district of the Nelson South-west
Goldfields, hereinafter described, viz :—
INANGAHUA DISTRICT.
-
A block of land containing six acres and two
roods, more or less, situated on Anderson's
line of reef, Murray Creek, applied for by
Watson, Braithwaite, and others (Great
Republic Company). Area applied for, four-
teen acres, two roods, and twenty perches. -
A block of land containing sixteen acres and
two roods, more or less, situated on Ander-
son's line, Murray Creek, applied for by
James Coulahan and others (Emerald Isle
Company). -
A block of land containing eleven acres, one
rood, and thirty-six perches, more or less,
situated east of Adam Smith's line, Murray
Creek, applied for by Henry Eadie and
others (East India Company). -
A block of land containing twelve acres, more
or less, situated east of Adam Smith's line,
Murray Creek, applied for by James Suther-
land and others (Livingstone Company).
