IT is hereby notified that a Writ issued for the
Election of a Member of the Provincial Council
for the City of Nelson, has been returned with a Certi-
ficate to the effect that
ROBERT BURN, of Nelson, Freeholder,
has been duly elected.

IT is hereby notified that it is intended after the
expiration of two months from the date hereof,
to Grant a Lease, for goldmining purposes, of the
Crown Lands within the District of the Nelson South-
west Gold-fields, hereinafter described, viz.—
A block of land, containing ten acres, more or
less, situated at Bell-hill, Grey District,
applied for by the Bell-hill Water-race and
Goldmining Company.

IT is hereby notified that it is intended after the
expiration of two months from the date hereof,
to Grant Leases, for goldmining purposes, of the
Crown Lands within the District of the Nelson South-
west Goldfields, hereinafter described, viz.—
INANGAHUA DISTRICT.

A block of land, containing six acres, more or
less, situated at Painkiller Creek, South
Bank of the left branch of the Inangahua
River, applied for by James Montgomery and
others, Golden Age Company. Area ap-
plied for, ten acres. -
A block of land, containing ten acres, two
roods, and fifteen perches, more or less,
situated at Painkiller Creek, applied for by
John Surgeon and others, Cumberland Com-
pany. -
A block of land, containing four acres, more
or less, situated at Boatman's Creek, applied
for by Edward Smethurst and others, Rose
of Lancaster Company. Area applied for,
eight acres and one rood. -
A block of land, containing seven acres, more
or less, situated at Painkiller Creek, applied
for by Robert Taply, Lone Star Company.
Area applied for, eleven acres. -
A block of land, containing six acres, two
roods, and seventeen perches, more or less,
situated at Boatman's Creek, applied for by
Thomas Cox, Age of Progress Company.

PROTECTION is hereby Granted, under the pro-
visions of the Goldfields Act, 1866, to JOHN
MAUNDER LANGDON, for the term of Four years from
the date hereof, for a Punt Ferry across the Inangahua
River, about 5 miles from the junction of the rivers
Buller and Inangahua, at the crossing of the new
road to Reefton, subject to the following conditions,
viz.—

That a substantial Punt, capable of carrying
at least twelve tons, shall be placed on the
River at the same named, within two months
from this date, and maintained in good work-
ing order during the term of protection. -
That a competent ferryman shall be always in
attendance, and the ferry shall be at all times
conducted to the satisfaction of the Warden
of the district. -
The Warden of the district may, on being
satisfied that the ferry is not conducted in an
efficient manner, and in accordance with
these conditions, suspend the operation of
this protection until the matter of complaint
be removed; and if the matter of complaint
be not removed within a reasonable time, the
Superintendent shall have the power to
cancel this protection. -
The Superintendent to have the option, at any
time during the term of protection, of pur-
chasing the punt and work connected
therewith, at a valuation without any con-
sideration for loss of good will. -
In the event of this protection being cancelled
under the provision of clause 3 hereof, the
said John Maunder Langdon, or his assigns,
shall not be entitled to any payment or com-
pensation excepting for the actual value of
the punt, and the Superintendent shall have
power to take immediate possession of the
punt and works connected therewith. -
The tolls to be charged for the use of the punt
shall not exceed the following, viz.—

| Empty four-wheeled Waggon, with not exceeding 4 horses | 3 0 |
| Goods per ton, not on Dray | 1 6 |
| Government Officers, including Police, Road Overseers, Postmen, and Laborers, when on duty | Free. |
| Horses required by any of the above mentioned Government Officers or persons | Free. |

This protection shall extend along the river
for a distance of two miles, that is to say one
mile each side of the site of the punt. -
This protection shall not have any effect or
operation until the punt has been placed on
the river in good working order, to the
satisfaction of the Provincial Engineer.
