NELSON GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.
Superintendent's Office,
Nelson, 9th March, 1871.
WHEREAS, a Notice was issued in Gazette,
numbered 36, dated 1st December, 1870,
granting Protection, under the provisions of "The
Goldfields Act, 1866," to WILLIAM COURTNEY for a
Tramway to be constructed by him from the corner
of Wharf and Bright-streets, Westport, to Atkin-
son's Hotel, near the Orawaiti Bridge:
And whereas it is desirable that authority should
also be given to the said WILLIAM COURTNEY to
extend the said Tramway:
Now therefore, I, OSWALD CURTIS, Superintendent
of the Province of Nelson, in exercise of the powers
vested in me do hereby, subject to the terms and
conditions contained in the Notice referred to, and
published in the said Gazette, GRANT unto the said
WILLIAM COURTNEY, PROTECTION for FIVE YEARS,
from the 1st day of December last, for an extension
of the said Tramway from the junction of Bright and
Molesworth-streets, along Molesworth-street to its
junction with Gladstone-street, and thence along
Gladstone-street to the bank of the Buller river.

NOTICE is hereby given, that the undermen-
tioned Gold-Mining Leases are cancelled, the
conditions under which they were granted not having
been complied with, viz.:—
- Lease dated 1st July, 1869, to CORNELIUS
O'CONNOR, Manager Independent Company,
of Nine Acres Three Roods and Sixteen
Perches, District of Charleston. - Lease dated 1st July, 1869, to TIMOTHY
CADDIGAN and others, of Three Acres,
District of Charleston. - Lease dated 1st July, 1869, to NEPTUNE
Mining Company, of Five Acres Three
Roods and Fourteen Perches, District of
Charleston. - Lease dated 1st January, 1870, to MICHAEL
CAIN and others, of Four Acres Two Roods
and Fourteen Perches, District of Charleston. - Lease dated 1st January, 1870, to HENRY
DELARGY and JOHN M'NEIL, of Five Acres
Two Roods and Twenty-five Perches, Dis-
trict of Brighton. - Lease dated 1st January, 1870, to THEOP-
HILUS HILL and others, of Nine Acres
and Fourteen Perches, District of Brighton. - Lease dated 1st January, 1870, to JOSEPH
TEWKESBURY, of One Acre and Three
Roods, District of Brighton. - Lease dated 1st January, 1870, to DANIEL
HUGHES and EDWARD M'CLUTCHIE, Block
and Pillar Company, of Two Acres Two
Roods and Eight Perches, District of
Charleston.

IT is hereby notified that it is intended, after the
expiration of Two Months from the date hereof,
to grant Leases for Gold-Mining Purposes of the
Crown Land within the District of the Nelson South-
west Goldfields, hereinafter described, viz.:—
- A Block of Land, containing Six Acres Three
Roods and Five Perches, more or less,
situated at Candlelight Flat Charleston.
Applied for by THOMAS BIRRELL and
others. - A Block of Land, containing One Acre and
Thirty-four Perches, more or less, situated
near Argyle Terrace, Charleston. Applied
for by PATRICK COLLINS. - A Block of Land, containing Four Acres and
Nineteen Perches, more or less, situated at
Emerald Terrace, Charleston. Applied for
by SAMUEL PENNEY and others.

more or less, situated at Red Jack's Creek,
Grey District. Applied for by JOHNSON
and Company.

Rood and Twenty-six Perches, situated at
Emerald Terrace, Charleston.
