IT is hereby notified that it is intended, after the expiration of Two Months from the date hereof, to grant a Lease for Gold-Mining Purposes of the Crown Land within the District of the Nelson South-west Goldfields, hereinafter described, viz :—

Block of Land, containing Four Acres Two Roods and Twenty-seven Perches, more or less, situated at Argyle Terrace, Charleston.
Applied for by JOHN DUDGEON and others.

By His Honor OSWALD CURTIS, Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, in the Islands of New Zealand.

IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers in me vested, and enabling me in that behalf, I do hereby proclaim and declare that from and after the day after the publication in the New Zealand Gazette, all that District of the Province of Marlborough, lying between the Clarence River, the Conway River, the seaward Kaikoura Range, and the sea, shall be

The Nelson Provincial Council Buildings (depicted) were constructed beginning with the laying of the foundation stone on 26 August 1859, with the first Council meeting held there on 30 April 1861.

The buildings served Nelson for over a century before being demolished on 12 September 1969.
