THE HONORABLE THE SPEAKER OF THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL, NELSON—

SIR,—In compliance with the provisions of "The Provincial Audit Act," I have the honor to forward herewith, for the information of the Provincial Council, the following documents, viz. :—

Quarterly and Annual Statements of Receipts and Expenditure by the Provincial Treasurer, for the Financial year ended 31st March, 1871.

Statement of Unauthorised Expenditure during same period, together with special orders relating to the same.

Statement of Receipts and Expenditure on account of the Nelson Waterworks, for the Twelve months ended 31st March, 1871.

Statement of amount received and standing to the credit of "The Road Districts Funds Account" for the Nine months ended 31st March, 1871.

Summary of Expenditure under heading "General Contingencies."

Copy of correspondence and evidence relative to the defalcations of the late Sub-Treasurer on the West Coast.

The Nelson Provincial Council Buildings (depicted) were constructed beginning with the laying of the foundation stone on 26 August 1859, with the first Council meeting held there on 30 April 1861.

The buildings served Nelson for over a century before being demolished on 12 September 1969.
