Superintendent's Office,

Nelson, 23rd April, 1869.

PROTECTION is hereby granted for Six Months from 1st April, instant, under the provisions of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," to HENRY EARLES, for the right of FERRYING across FOX'S RIVER, for a distance of half-a-mile from the mouth of the river, and he is authorised to charge from 1st April, to 30th September, 1869, fares, as per Schedule, on the following conditions:β€”

  1. That a good safe Boat and competent Ferryman shall be at all times in attendance.

  2. That Government Officers on duty be ferried free of charge.

  3. That this Protection shall not be transferred without the authority of the Warden of the district.

  4. That this Protection shall not affect the right of the Government to erect or grant Protection for any bridge within the protected limits.

THE SUPERINTENDENT directs it to be notified that a Writ, issued for the Election of a Member of the Provincial Council for the City of Nelson, has been returned with a certificate to the effect that

DAVID MITCHELL LUCKIE,
of Nelson, Freeholder, has been duly elected.

IN conformity with the provisions of the Gold Mining Lease Regulations, published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 15, of 1866, it is hereby notified that it is intended to GRANT LEASES for GOLD MINING PURPOSES, of the Crown Land within the District of the Nelson South-West Goldfields, hereinafter described, viz:β€”

  1. A Block of Land, containing Five Acres, more or less, situated at the Back Lead, Darkie's Terrace, Charleston, applied for by Fleming O'Reilly and others (Nil Desperandum Cement Crushing Company.)

  2. A Block of Land, containing Two Acres One Rood and Thirty-three Perches, more or less, situate at Back Lead, Darkie's Terrace, Charleston, applied for by James Walker and others (Excelsior Cement Crushing Company.)
