HIS HONOR the Acting-Superintendent directs it to be notified for general information that a writ issued for the election of a Member of the Provincial Council for the District of Amuri has been returned with a Certificate to the effect that

RULES FOR INTERMENT IN THE WAIMEA WEST CEMETERY.

  1. That the exclusive right of burial in any plot of ground in the Waimea West Public Cemetery be purchasable at the rate of five shillings per square yard, payable at the time of selection of the site, failing which the same to remain open to selection.

  2. That no burial-plot shall be less than nine feet in depth, nor contain less than four square yards, viz., nine feet by four feet, with additional foot of frontage to be five shillings.

  3. Persons not desirous of purchasing the exclusive right of burial, may cause burials to take place by paying to the Trustees the sum of Ten Shillings for each such interment in addition to the usual burial fees.

  4. Persons who are unable to pay the fees imposed by rule 3, may use such portion of the Cemetery for the burial of their friends as shall be set apart for that purpose by the Trustees of the Cemetery, free of charge.

  5. Applicants for burial-plots, exclusive or otherwise, can select any spot in any section, on application to the Secretary, or any person duly authorised, who is hereby empowered to mark off the same on payment of the sum fixed by the regulations.

  6. Each plot is to be staked off at the four corners, with durable stakes, at least one foot above the level of the ground.

  7. The Sexton, or other person, shall not begin digging a grave until the sum due on its leasing shall have been paid.

  8. The holders of any plots of burial ground shall observe such rules, with regard to enclosing, fencing, and decent maintenance of the same, as shall from time to time be laid down by the Trustees.

  9. The top of any coffin, deposited in any part of the Cemetery, shall not be less than five feet below the natural level of the soil.

  10. It shall be at the option of persons using the ground for interment, to engage and pay such persons as they prefer either for the burial service or the interment.

IN pursuance of the power vested in me by the eleventh section of "The Marine Act, 1866," I, Sir George Grey, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby direct that the distinguishing Flag to be carried at the mast or mainmast head of vessels whose masters hold a certificate of exemption from pilotage while entering any port to which that certificate applies shall be a White Flag not less than six feet long and four feet broad.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Grey, Knight Commander of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor, and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand, and its Dependencies, at the Government House, at Wellington, and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, this nineteenth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six.
