The Provincial Council, Nelson.
SIR,—I have the honor to forward herewith, for the information of the Council, the Quarterly Statement of the Provincial Treasurer, for the period ending March 31, 1867; also the Statement for the Financial Year, ending same time; together with a Statement of the Receipts and Expenditure to the 31st ult., at which date the respective Accounts and Balances of the Provincial Government were made over to the Provincial Treasurer recently appointed by the present Superintendent.
I also forward a Statement of the Assets and Liabilities of the Province, dated March 31, 1867; and a detailed account of the Expenditure under the heading "Miscellaneous."
Since forwarding my last Yearly Report the remainder of the Waterworks Debentures have been disposed of, realising in all the full sum for which they were issued, viz., £20,000. Of this sum, £6000* is in England; £5000 placed as a fixed deposit in the Union Bank, at Nelson; £1044 2s. 10d. is the present balance at the Bank; and the balance has been paid for Pipes, Freight, Exchange, Labor, &c., including the Interest to the present date on the Debentures.
The Immigration Account has been audited and found correct, and the balance to the credit of the account at the Bank, on the 31st March last, was £2522 5s. 7d.
- This amount has just been remitted back to Nelson.
