All Public Notifications which appear in this Gazette, with any Official Signature thereunto annexed, are to be considered as Official Communications made to those Persons to whom they may relate, and are to be obeyed accordingly.

NELSON, April 5th, 1867.

A NEW EDUCATION DISTRICT, to be called the Education District of COBDEN, is hereby constituted, the boundaries of which District are as follows :—

On the South, the North Bank of the River Grey, from its mouth to the South-eastern angle of the block of land leased to the Nelson Coal Mining Company.

On the East, the North-Eastern Boundary of the said block.

On the North, a line drawn due West from the North-Eastern angle of the said block to Point Elizabeth.

On the West, the cost line from Point Elizabeth to the mouth of the Grey.

APPLICATIONS for LEASES under the Crown Lands (Nelson) Leasing Act 1865, received by the Commissioner of Crown Lands during the month of January, 1867 :—


George Orr	District of Stanley Brook. Being for Section 121, of Square 6. Contents, 215 acres. Deposit—£7 3s. 4d.
Henry Van	District of Moutere. Being for Section 98 A, and part of No. 104. Contents, 265 acres. Deposit—£8 16s. 8d.

The Nelson Provincial Council Buildings (depicted) were constructed beginning with the laying of the foundation stone on 26 August 1859, with the first Council meeting held there on 30 April 1861.

The buildings served Nelson for over a century before being demolished on 12 September 1969.
