exercise within the Province of Nelson, the
said powers by the said commission given :

And whereas in pursuance of the power
and authority so vested in me as aforesaid,
I, Alfred Saunders, did by proclamation
bearing date the 31st day of July, 1865, pro-
claim and declare certain Lands to be a Gold-
field, within the meaning of the Gold-fields
Act, to be called the Nelson South-west
Gold-fields :

And whereas it is desirable to alter and
extend the boundaries thereof :

Now therefore, I, Alfred Saunders, Super-
intendent of the Province of Nelson, do
hereby and in pursuance of the power and
authority so vested in me as aforesaid, pro-
claim that all that part of the Province of
Nelson, hereinafter described, shall be added
to and form part of the Nelson South-west
Gold-fields, that is to say, All that territory
comprised within the following boundaries, and
commencing at a point on the West Coast mid-
way between the Rivers Okari and Totara;
thence along the sea coast to Kongahu Point;
thence by the most direct spur to peak of
Otabu Hill; thence along top of range en-
closing drainage area of the River Mokihi-
nui to the Marino Mountains; thence along
top of range to Mount Owen; thence along
the top of ranges eastward of the River
Hope to its junction with the Buller; thence
to the nearest peak of range forming the
watershed, between the River Howard and
Lake Rotoroa; thence along the top of the
Spencer Mountains to Travers' Peak; thence
along the top of range to the nearest point
of the present boundary of the South-west
Gold-fields: excepting so much and such
parts of the land hereinbefore described, as
is comprised within the Townships of West-
port and Hampden, and the surveyed lands
respectively adjoining thereto.

Given under my hand, and issued under
the Public Seal of the Province of
Nelson, this first day of September,
in the year of our Lord One thousand
eight hundred and sixty-six.

PROCLAMATION.

By his Honor ALFRED SAUNDERS,
Esquire, Superintendent of the Pro-
vince of Nelson, in the Islands of
New Zealand, &c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS, by an Act of the
General Assembly of New Zealand,
intituled the "Gold-fields Act, 1862," it is
enacted that it shall be lawful for the Gover-
nor from time to time, by proclamation, to
constitute and appoint any portion of the
Colony to be a Gold-field under the provisions
of the said Act, and the limits of such Gold-
field from time to time to alter as occasion
may require.

And whereas by the said Act it is provided
that it shall be lawful for the Governor in
Council, under his hand and the public Seal
of the Colony, from time to time to delegate
to the Superintendent of any Province, or to
such other person as the Governor may deem
fit, all or any of the powers vested in the
Governor, or the Governor in Council, by
the said Act, except the powers conferred
by sections 19, 31, 32, 33, and 61 thereof,
subject or not subject to any limitation or
restrictions as he may think fit.

And whereas by virtue of a commission,
bearing date the 28th day of June, 1865,
given under the hand of his Excellency Sir
George Grey, K.C.B., Governor of New
Zealand, at Government House, Welling-
ton, and under the public seal of the
Colony, his Excellency the Governor,
with the advice and consent of his Ex-
ecutive Council, and in exercise of the power
and authority in him vested, did dele-
gate absolutely and without restriction unto
Alfred Saunders, Esq., as Superintendent of
the Province of Nelson, all the powers vested
in him the said Governor or by virtue of
the Gold-fields Act, 1862, except the powers
conferred in sections 19, 31, 32, 33, and 61
of the said Act; to have, hold, and exercise
within the Province of Nelson the said powers
by the said commission given.

And whereas by a Proclamation, bear-
ing date the 15th day of September,
1863, issued by his Honor John Perry
Robinson, Esq., the then Superintendent
of the Province of Nelson, certain lands
therein described, situate in the district of
Golden Bay, in the Province of Nelson afore-
said, were declared to be a gold-field under
the provisions of the Gold-fields Act, 1862.

And whereas it is desirable to alter the
boundaries of the above mentioned gold-field.
