BY-LAW.

WHEREAS, the keeping of pigs within the
populous portion of the City of Nelson is
found to be a source of sickness, and a nui-
sance and annoyance to the public; and
whereas it is desirable that such an evil
should be prevented: Be it, therefore,
ordered and directed by the Board of Works,
for the said city, with the sanction of his
Honor the Superintendent and his Executive
Council, as follows, viz.:β€”

"After the coming into operation of this
By-Law, no pig or pigs shall be kept
in a sty, or other inclosure, within
the boundary of the city of Nelson, if
such sty or enclosure shall be within
twenty yards of any public road or
private dwelling: and any person
who, after receiving twenty-four
hours' notice from the Inspector of
Nuisances to remove the same, shall
permit any pig or pigs to be kept on
premises in his or her occupation,
contrary to the provisions of this By-
Law, such person shall be liable to a
penalty of not exceeding twenty
shillings, and to a further penalty of
not exceeding ten shillings per day
for every day such person shall neg-
lect to comply with the said notice."
