THE COMMISSION APPOINTED BY HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT TO MAKE ENQUIRY AS TO THE BEST MEANS OF SUPPLYING THE CITY OF NELSON WITH PURE WATER, report as follows:—
With the Report of the Select Committee of the Provincial Council on this subject, contained in the published Proceedings of the Council, Session VIII, 1861, before them, the labors of the Commissioners were comparatively light.
The course taken by them was to request each of the gentlemen whose evidence was taken by that Committee to supplement his report then given, with any further suggestions or any alterations which might occur to him. The Commissioners also furnished the Provincial Engineer with a copy of the series of questions drawn up by the Committee of the Council in 1861, that gentleman's absence from Nelson at the time, having prevented the Committee from availing themselves of his knowledge and experience. And an advertisement was inserted in the newspapers, asking any persons who took an interest in the subject to favor the Commissioners with any information bearing upon the inquiry, of which they might be in
