that they would then be able to secure a vessel better adapted for the special requirements of the province than could be hoped for in any other way; and, in the confidence that the increasing trade of Nelson, and the favorable terms on which they could offer its services, would secure them from all risks beyond those unforeseen casualties to which all such enterprises are, in their own nature, liable. Nor have their expectations been disappointed. Very shortly afterwards the public attention was strongly called to the subject, and an association formed, which, from its composition, and the general support it has received, offers as good a guarantee for carrying out its objects as could reasonably be expected; and the Trustees have therefore engaged to give it the first offer of their steamer on its arrival. The propose to retain the ownership, and to put the vessel at the disposal of the Company, so long as it shall be bona fide employed in the service of Nelson and Marlborough, on such terms as, whilst they secure the Fund from eventual loss, shall give the Steam Association the full benefit and advantage of her services.
