Being the grass flat on the Pohataroha or Upper Grey, known as the Waipuna; bounded on the north-west by the River Pohataroha or Upper Grey; and on the south, east, and west, by forest land.

The buildings served Nelson for over a century before being demolished on 12 September 1969.
