sons resident in the province for the introduction of their friends, on their giving security for the repayment of the passage money.

In the month of September last, an offer having been made by Messrs. Nash and Scaife, as agents for Messrs. Willis, Gann, and Co., to convey immigrants to this province at the rate of £17 per adult, the Commissioners, although quite satisfied with the manner in which the immigrants have been brought out under Mr. Morrison's contract, considered it their duty to re-open the contract to public competition, and authority was therefore forwarded to Mr. Tytler to enable that gentleman to give notice to Mr. Morrison to that effect, and to enable him also to advertise for fresh tenders and accept the most desirable thereof.

To insure the comfort of the passengers, the Commissioners have made arrangements with Mr. Tytler for a personal inspection by that gentleman of all ships leaving for this port with emigrants.

On reference to the Statement of Liabilities, it will be seen, under the head of "Moneys receivable," that the sum of £2,649 1s. 3d. is given as passage money to be repaid on account of the ships Mariner, Queen of the Avon, and Golconda. This sum has to be paid by instalments coming due at various dates, as the agreement entered into with the persons sending for their friends provides that the passage money shall be repaid within two (2) years after arrival, by equal quarterly instalments.

Application having been made by the Trustees of the Nelson Trust Funds for the £2,000 advanced to the Commissioners by the Trustees for Immigration purposes for seven years, bearing interest, after the first five years, at the rate of five pounds per centum per annum, the Commissioners have requested the Government to place on the Estimates the sum of £1,000, which they recommend should be paid off, the five years having expired on the 31st August last.

J. P. ROBINSON,
Superintendent.
