HIS Honour the Superintendent directs it to be notified for general information, that Writs for the election of Members of the Provincial Council for the undermentioned districts in the Province of Nelson having been issued, in accordance with the provisions of an "Act to grant a Representative Constitution to the Colony of New Zealand," the Returning Officers of the said districts have returned the said Writs, with Certificates to the effect that the undermentioned gentlemen have been duly elected to serve as Members of the said Provincial Council for the said districts :—

For the District of Waimea South—
ALFRED SAUNDERS, Waimea South, freeholder;

For the District of Motueka—
BERNARD MCMAHON, Riwaka, freeholder.

REPORT OF THE COMMISSIONERS OF IMMIGRATION OF THE PROVINCE OF NELSON.

At the date of the Commissioners' last Report (21st April, 1859), about 300 persons had been sent for. Of this number, 183 have since arrived in the ships Mariner, Queen of the Avon, and Golconda.

Up to the present date additional applications have been sent for 169 souls, equal to 142 adults, the cost of whose passages, at the present contract price, would amount to £2,683 16s.

As it is possible, however, that some of the remainder of the persons applied for prior to the 21st April last may yet be sent out, the Commissioners consider it advisable to estimate their liabilities, on account of passage money to be advanced, at £3,000.

The Commissioners have also, in addition to the abovementioned number of passengers brought out from England, introduced from Melbourne 25 female servants, at a cost of £7 per adult.
