PROCLAMATION.

By his Honour JOHN PERRY ROBINSON, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, in the Islands of New Zealand.

WHEREAS, by an Act of the Imperial Parliament, passed in the session holden in the fifteenth and sixteenth years of the reign of her Majesty Queen Victoria, intituled "An Act to grant a Representative Constitution to the Colony of New Zealand," it was, amongst other things, enacted, that no bill passed by the Provincial Council of any province established under the authority of the said Act, which shall be reserved for the signification of the assent of the Governor, shall have any force or authority within the province until the Superintendent shall signify, either by speech or message to the Provincial Council, or by proclamation in the Government Gazette, that such bill has been leid before the Governor, and that the Governor has assented to the same: And whereas an ordinance was passed by the Provincial Council of the Province of Nelson, Session V., No. 9, intituled "An Act to amend an Act to promote Education in the Province of Nelson," and the same was reserved by me for the assent of his Excellency the Governor:

Now therefore I, the said Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, do hereby proclaim and declare that the aforesaid ordinance has been laid before his Excellency the Governor, and that his Excellency has assented to the same.

Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province, at Nelson, this thirteenth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-eight.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.


NELSON BOARD OF WORKS.

NOTICE is hereby given, that, pursuant to the 4th clause of the "Nelson Improvement Amendment Act, 1858," the ELECTION of seven duly qualified persons to be the NELSON BOARD OF WORKS for the ensuing year, will take place at a meeting to be held at the Court House, Nelson, on MONDAY, the 26th day of July, 1858, at Twelve o'clock at noon.

Every person who has paid the last rate levied by the present Board of Works will be entitled to vote and take part in the above meeting.

In the event of a Poll being demanded by any candidate, or by three electors on his behalf, the Polling will take place on the following day, commencing at Noon, and closing at Four o'clock, p.m.
