PROCLAMATION.
By His Honor, JOHN PERRY ROBINSON, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, in the Islands of New Zealand, &c., &c.
WHEREAS, by an Act passed by the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled "The Local Posts Act, 1856," it is amongst other things enacted that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent of any Province, by proclamation in the Government Gazette thereof, to fix the rates of postage payable for the transmission by any post or postal communication established under the authority of that Act, of letters, newspapers, and other papers and parcels :
Now therefore I, the Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, pursuant to the power and authority in me vested in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and fix that on and after the Fifteenth day of February next, the following rates of postage shall be payable for letters, newspapers, and other papers and parcels transmitted by any post or postal communication established under the authority of the said Act, that is to say :—
LETTERS AND PACKETS.
On every letter, paper, or parcel, not exceeding half an ounce in weight—Two Pence.
On every letter, paper, or parcel, exceeding half an ounce in weight, then the sum of Two Pence for every half ounce, or fractional part of half an ounce, according to the weight of such letter, paper, or parcel.
PRINTED BOOKS.
Printed books, magazines, reviews, or pamphlets (whether British, Colonial, or Foreign) :—
For a single volume or packet, not exceeding half a pound in weight—Sixpence.
