PROCLAMATION.

By his Excellency Colonel THOMAS GORE BROWNE, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS, by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled "The Resident Magistrates' Courts Extension of Jurisdiction Act, 1856," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor, upon the request of the Superintendent of any Province, by Proclamation in the Government Gazette, to bring the said Act into operation in respect to any Resident Magistrate's Court having jurisdiction within such Province, and after a certain day to be named in such Proclamation, and to define the districts within which cases may be heard in such Court under the provisions of this Act.

Now, therefore, I, the Governor of New Zealand, upon the request of the Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, do hereby proclaim and declare that the said recited Act shall come into operation in respect of the Resident Magistrate's Court of Nelson, in the said Province, from and after the 1st day of August, in the year 1857; and that the said Province of Nelson shall be the district within which cases may be heard in such Court under the provisions of the said recited Act.

Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Colony of New Zealand, at Government House, at Auckland, in the colony aforesaid, this fourteenth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-seven.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to authorize the undermentioned to grant Licenses for the importation and sale of arms, gunpowder, &c., in conformity with the provisions of the Proclamation of the 25th June, 1857:—

Josiah Flight, Esq., New Plymouth.
John Poynter, Esq., Nelson.
Henry Godfrey Gouland, Esq., Collingwood.
Stephen Lunn Muller, Esq., Wairau.
Henry St. Hill, Esq., Wellington.
David Stark Durie, Esq., Whanganui.
John Curling, Esq., Napier.
William John Warburton Hamilton, Esq., Lyttelton.
John Hall, Esq., Christchurch.
John Watson, Esq., Akaroa.
John Gillies, Esq., Dunedin.
Andrew Jamieson Elles, Esq., Invercargill.

These appointments respectively to take effect from the date in which the Proclamation above referred to comes into force in each province.
