All Public Notifications which appear in this Gazette, with any Official Signature thereunto annexed, are to be considered as Official Communications made to those Persons to whom they may relate, and are to be obeyed accordingly.

HIS Honour the Superintendent directs it to be notified that the undermentioned ACTS, passed by the Provincial Council of Nelson, having been reserved for the assent of the Governor, his Excellency has been pleased to leave them to their operation :—

An Act to authorize the Superintendent to issue a Commission to inquire into certain Claims for Compensation under certain Contracts of the New Zealand Company.

An Act to amend an Act for the making and maintaining of Roads and other Public Works in the Province of Nelson.

An Act to amend the Nelson Improvement Act, 1856.

An Act to appropriate the Revenue of the Province of Nelson, for the Year ending the Thirty-first day of December, 1857.

HIS Honour the Superintendent directs it to be notified that Commissions having been issued to the undermentioned gentlemen, constituting them RESIDENT MAGISTRATES, his Honour has appointed

HENRY GODFREY GOULAND, Esq., R.M., to the District of Massacre Bay; and

STEPHEN LUNN MULLER, Esq., R.M., to the District of Wairau, including Pelorus and the Southern Districts of the Province.

The former appointment to date from the 1st of June, 1857; the latter from the 1st of August next.

ERRATUM.—In notice of days appointed for Meetings of Voters under "The Country Roads Act, 1856," in page 95, after the words "undermentioned days," insert "at 12 o'clock, noon."

The Nelson Provincial Council Buildings (depicted) were constructed beginning with the laying of the foundation stone on 26 August 1859, with the first Council meeting held there on 30 April 1861.

The buildings served Nelson for over a century before being demolished on 12 September 1969.
