ELECTION OF ONE MEMBER FOR THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.

DISTRICT OF MASSACRE BAY.

WHEREAS A WRIT, under the hand of his Honor JOHN PERRY ROBINSON, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, bearing date the Sixteenth day of December instant, has been directed to me, John Poynter, Esquire, Resident Magistrate and Principal Returning Officer for the province, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected, by and from amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently and in manner and form by law prescribed, one person to serve as MEMBER in such Council for the District of MASSACRE BAY, in the place of the said John Perry Robinson:

Now therefore I, the said John Poynter, do hereby, in pursuance of the said Writ, give notice that I appoint MONDAY, the Fifth day of January next, at Noon, at the School-house, MOTUPIPI, for the NOMINATION to take place. And in the event of a poll being demanded, I hereby further appoint TUESDAY, the Sixth day of January next, for the POLLING to take place at the said School-house: the polling to commence at Ten o\'clock in the forenoon, and close at Four o\'clock in the afternoon of the said day.

WHEREAS George Leslie Lee has resigned his seat in the Provincial Council for the above district, and the seat has thereby become vacant; and whereas a Writ, under the hand of his Honor JOHN PERRY ROBINSON, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, bearing date the Sixteenth day of December instant, has been directed to me, John Poynter, Esq., Resident Magistrate and Principal Returning Officer for the Province of Nelson, requiring me to cause to be elected, by and from amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently and in manner and form by law prescribed, one person to serve as MEMBER in the Provincial Council for the said district:
