All Public Notifications which appear in this Gazette, with any Official Signature thereunto annexed, are to be considered as Official Communications made to those Persons to whom they may relate, and are to be obeyed accordingly.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY.

Provincial Secretary's Office,
Nelson, August 25, 1856.

WHEREAS, a definitive treaty of Peace between her Majesty and her Allies, and his Imperial Majesty the Emperor of all the Russians, was concluded at Paris, on the 30th day of March last, and the ratifications thereof have been duly exchanged: and whereas his Excellency the Governor in order to afford the inhabitants of the colony of New Zealand an opportunity of commemorating so propitious an event, has been pleased to direct that throughout certain of the provinces of the said colony such day as the Superintendent of such Province may appoint shall be observed as a Public Holiday: Now therefore his Honor the Superintendent appoints that THURSDAY, the 4th day of September next, shall be observed as such Public Holiday.

THURSDAY, the 4th day of September next, having been appointed to be observed as a Public Holiday, his Honor the Superintendent has been pleased to direct that the public offices of the Government shall be closed on that day.
