HIS Honor the Superintendent directs the publication of the following despatch from the Superintendent of Canterbury, with its enclosure, for general information.

December 1, 1854.

SIRβ€”I have the honor to transmit for your Honor's information, a copy of a clause in a Bill which has passed the Provincial Council, and awaits my assent, for the prevention of the introduction of diseased Sheep into this Province.

It may save the Stockowners in the Province of Nelson some trouble and expense, if your Honor would be pleased to procure the publication of the enclosed Clause, which will have become law within a day or two hence, either in the Gazette, or the public newspaper of the Province.

"23. If any person shall himself, or by means of any agent, or servant, introduce or cause to be introduced into the Province of Canterbury, by land, any sheep, unless they shall within fourteen days previous to such introduction have been inspected by an Inspector of Sheep, appointed by the Superintendent under the provisions of this Ordinance, and unless such person shall have received a certificate to the effect that such sheep are entirely free from either of the said diseases, he shall be liable to a penalty of one hundred pounds: and if such sheep so introduced shall exceed one hundred in number, he shall be liable to a further penalty of not less than one shilling, nor more than five shillings, for every sheep in excess of the said number; and the before-mentioned certificate shall, at any time within six months after the date thereof, be produced by the owner of such sheep, to any person demanding the same, under a penalty of five pounds."
