Harbour Office,
Wellington, 14th February, 1862.

SIR—, I have the honour to inform you, that, Captain Jackson has communicated to me the existence of a Sunken Rock on which the sea breaks heavily, discovered by him, his vessel the Shepherdess having struck upon it, some seven years ago. Captain Jackson has not been able to ascertain its true position, the Rocks probably lay about 2½ miles S.S.E. from the landing place at Stony Hurst, and in the track of Steamers and vessels trading to Port Cooper.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient servant,

JOHN HOLLIDAY.

His Honor,
the Superintendent.
