PROCLAMATION
By William Douglas Hall Baillie,
Esquire, Superintendent of the
Province of Marlborough.
IN virtue of the provisions of the 10th Clause of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, entitled “The New Provinces Act, 1858,” wherein it is provided that the Provincial Council of any Province established under this Act shall, by an absolute majority, elect some legally qualified person to serve as Superintendent of the Province:
And whereas, the Speaker of the Provincial Council of Marlborough did, on the 28th day of August, 1861, at a meeting of the said Council, openly declare and publicly notify that I, William Douglas Hall Baillie, Esquire, was duly elected Superintendent of the Province of Marlborough.
Now, therefore, I hereby declare and proclaim that I have assumed the office of Superintendent of Marlborough accordingly, and I hereby call upon the inhabitants of the said Province to be aiding and assisting me therein.
Given under my hand at Picton, this 29th day of August, 1861.

MARLBOROUGH BATTALION OF MILITIA.
BY virtue and in exercise of the authority in me vested, I, William Douglas Hall Baillie, Captain Commanding the Marlborough Battalion of Militia, do hereby appoint and declare that the said Battalion shall be formed into Four Companies, as follows, viz.:
No. 1 or Blenheim Company to comprise all those liable to serve as Militiamen, whose place of abode for the time being are within a line commencing at the Wairau river, and proceeding Southwards along the line of road between Sections 101 and 105 Wairau West and Block 50 and 51 Omaka, and thence produced in a straight line to the dividing ridge between the Wairau and Awatere Valleys, thence eastwards along the dividing ridge to the White Bluff, thence northwards along the coast line to White’s Bay, thence westwards along a straight line to the confluence of the Tua Marina and Wairau rivers, thence westwards along the Wairau river to the commencing point.
