Proclamation of Highway Districts




PROCLAMATION.

By His Honor John Davies Ormond,
Esquire, Superintendent of the
Province of Hawke’s Bay, in the
Colony of New Zealand.

WHEREAS under the provisions of
the "District Highways Act, 1856,"
Session 3, No. 4, of the Province of Wel-
linton, and now in force in the Province
of Hawke’s Bay, it is provided that the
Superintendent may, for the purposes of
the said Act, from time to time, by pro-
clamation, divide the province or any part
thereof into districts. And whereas it is
expedient to bring certain districts in the
Province of Hawke’s Bay under the oper-
ation of the said Act.

Now, therefore, I, John Davies Ormond,
Superintendent of the Province of Hawke’s
Bay, in virtue of the powers vested in me
in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and de-
clare that the several parts of the Province,
situate within the limits hereinafter speci-
fied, shall form and constitute districts for
the purposes of the "District Highways
Act, 1856," viz:—

MEANEE DISTRICT.

Starting from the mouth of the Tutaekuri
river, in the Ahuriri lagoon, up that
river to the western boundary of block 4,
in the Puketapu district; thence follow-
ing the western boundary line of blocks
4 and 5 (same district) to the north-west
corner of block 5; thence following a
straight line to the north-east corner of
block 55, same district; thence following
the foot of the Puketapu hills to the
Ahuriri lagoon; thence following the
edge of the Ahuriri lagoon to the starting
point at the mouth of the Tutaekuri
river.

PAPAKURA DISTRICT.

Starting from the mouth of the Waitangi
creek, in the Ngaruroro river, up the
Ngaruroro river to the Tutaekuri-Wai-
mate stream at Pakowai; thence up the
Tutaekuri-Waimate stream and dry
channel to the Tutaekuri river; thence
down the Tutaekuri river to the Meanee
road, at section 46, on the Whare-Oma-
ranui block; thence by the Meanee road
to the Waitangi creek; thence down the
Waitangi creek to the starting point at
Ngaruroro river.

HERETAUNGA DISTRICT.

Starting from Pakowai up the old bed of
the Ngaruroro river to where the Nga-
ururo runs into the Waio creek; thence
down that creek to the Tutaekuri-Wai-
mate stream; thence down the Tutaekuri-
Waimate to the starting point at Pakowai.

CLIVE AND HIKUTOTO DISTRICT.

Starting at the mouth of the Ngaruroro
river up that river to the ford at the
Karamu pah; thence by a straight line to
where the Clive road comes into the Te
Aute road; thence down the Clive road
to the northern boundary of the Mangateretere block; thence down the northern
boundary line of that block to the north-
east corner of same block; thence to the
southern corner of Clive suburban section
133, by a straight line; thence by the
road bounding the same section towards
the south-east across the lagoon to the
sea beach; thence by the sea beach to
the starting point at the Ngaruroro river.

TE MATA DISTRICT.

Starting from the ford at the Karamu pah
up the Ngaruroro river to the northern
boundary of the Havelock suburban land;
thence by that boundary to the road
bounding Havelock suburban section 32,
towards the south-east; thence by a
straight line to the south-west corner of
Lot 10, of Block I, Kidnappers’ district;
thence by the western boundary line of
Lots 6, 8, and 10, of same block and dis-
trict, to the boundary of the Clive subur-
ban land; thence by the southern boundary of Clive suburban section 267, to
the road bounding the same section to-
wards the west; thence by that road to
the west corner of Clive suburban section
184; thence across the Tuki Tuki river
by a straight line to the north-east
corner of the Mangateretere block;
thence along the northern boundary line
of that block to the Clive road; thence
by that road to the Te Aute road; thence
by a straight line to the starting point
at the ford at Karamupah.

HAVELOCK DISTRICT.

Starting from the southern corner of the
Pukahu block, following the Middle-road
to the southern boundary of the Havelock
suburban land; thence following the
south-west boundary of the Havelock
suburban land to the road bounding
Havelock suburban section 39, towards
the south-east; thence following that
road to the north-east boundary of
Havelock suburban land; thence by that
boundary to the Ngaruroro river; thence
up the Ngaruroro river to the Awanui
creek; thence up that creek to the Te
Aute road; thence by that road to where
it is intersected by the continuation of the
south-west boundary line of the Pukahu
block, following that line to the starting
point on the Middle-road at the southern
corner of the Pukahu block.

Given under my hand and seal of the
Province of Hawke’s Bay, this 4th
day of October, 1870.
