REPORT OF THE INSPECTOR OF SLAUGHTER HOUSES FOR THE NAPIER DISTRICT.
Government Buildings, Napier,
April 2, 1868.
SIR,βI have the honor to submit my Annual Report for this department, and append tabular statement of Cattle, &c., slaughtered for consumption in the Napier District, during the year ending 31st December, 1867, and for the quarter ending 31st March, 1868; also, the number of Cattle shipped from the Port of Napier and driven overland to other provinces.
Taking the last quarter as an average of the present year, it shows an increase of nearly 20 per cent. on last year's returns.
While there is a perceptible falling off in the shipments of Cattle from Napier, there is nearly a corresponding increase in the number driven overland to the neighbouring provinces.
I have much pleasure in reporting that the Slaughter House and Yards erected by the Government are now completed, and are replete with every convenience for slaughtering stock. The artesian well will prove a valuable adjunct to the premises.
Licenses will be issued for the new Slaughter House, dating from the 15th of the present month.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient Servant,
G. PEACOCK,
Inspector of Slaughter Houses.
His Honor the Deputy-Superintendent,
Hawke's Bay.
