IN PURSUANCE and exercise of the power and authority in me vested by the seventh section of the "Militia Act 1858," I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint

DONALD M'LEAN, ESQUIRE,

to be my Deputy, for the purpose of directing from time to time, as occasion may arise, the Officer Commanding the Napier Militia District, to draw out for actual service, with all convenient speed, the whole or any part of the men of the Militia in the said District.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand Cross of the most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand, and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, at the Government House, Wellington, this twenty-seventh day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.

IN PURSUANCE and in exercise of the power and authority in me vested by virtue of a warrant under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of New Zealand, appointing me, Donald M'Lean, to be the Deputy of His Excellency the Governor for the purpose of directing the Officer Commanding the Napier Militia District, to draw out for actual service the whole or any part of the men of the Militia in the said district pursuant to the "Militia Act 1858," I, Donald M'Lean, do hereby order and direct you, Lieut.-Colonel George Stoddart Whitmore, the Officer commanding the Militia in the said Napier Militia District, with all convenient speed to draw out for actual service the whole of the men of the Militia in the said district of the first and second classes.

Given under my hand at Wellington, this third day of October, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.

DONALD M'LEAN.

In pursuance of an order addressed to me by His Honor Donald M'Lean, Esq., as Deputy of His Excellency the Governor, bearing date the 3rd October, 1868, I, George Stoddart Whitmore, Lieut.-Colonel, the Officer Commanding the Napier Militia and Volunteer District, do hereby call out for Actual Service the whole of the Militia men of the 1st and 2nd classes within the District of Napier, the boundaries whereof are defined by an Order in Council, dated the 13th day of January 1859, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 3 of the 14th January, 1859. And I hereby give

notice that the said Militiamen must muster for Actual Service at the undermentioned

PLACES AND TIMES.

Nos. 1 and 2 Companies, front of the Militia Office, at 7 o'clock a.m., Monday, 12th October, 1868.

No. 3 Company, Right Sub-division, Clive, at 10 o'clock a.m., Wednesday, 14th October; Left Sub-division, Havelock, at 2 o'clock p.m., Wednesday, 14th October, 1868.

No. 4 Company, Meanee Bridge, at 10 o'clock a.m., Thursday, 15th October, 1868.

No. 5 Company, Right Sub-division, Kereru, at 12 o'clock noon, Saturday, 17th October, 1868; Left Sub-division, Hampden, at 12 o'clock noon, Monday, 19th October, 1868.

No. 6 Company, Right Sub-division, at Waipawa, front of the Court House, at 11 o'clock a.m., Monday, 19th October; 3rd Section, Mr. Grant's at 3 o'clock p.m., Monday, 19th October; the Patangata section, the usual Parade Ground, at 10 o'clock a.m., Tuesday, 20th October, 1868.

No. 7 Company, Right Sub-division, at the Tavistock Hotel, Waipukurau, at 12 o'clock noon, Saturday, 17th October; Left Sub-division, at Mr. Grant's station, Ruataniwha, at 12 o'clock noon, Monday, 19th October, 1868.

No. 10 Company, Right Sub-division, Porangahau, at 12 o'clock noon, Monday, 19th October, 1868; Left Sub-division, Wallingford, at 12 o'clock noon, Tuesday, 20th October, 1868.

No. 11 Company, Right Sub-division, Puketapu, 12 o'clock noon, Wednesday, 14th October; 3rd section, Rissington, at 3 o'clock p.m., 14th October; 4th Section, Petane, at 12 o'clock noon, Thursday, 15th October, 1868.

And on the same day and hour, each successive week, till further orders. As it is desirable not to interfere more than can be avoided with the time of settlers, during shearing and harvest, each man will be expected to parade 5 times, and after that drilling, unless disturbances occur, will be suspended for a time.

Officers are requested to ascertain as far as possible where the arms belonging to men of their districts who have gone away are to be found, and to issue them to the un-armed men of their companies.

When all arms that can be found are collected, officers are requested to send lists of the armed men and numbers of the arms in their possession, and also requisitions for the number of arms required to complete their men.
