Do hereby call out for training and exercise
All the men of the first and second classes
of the Napier Regiment of Militia who
are resident within the limits of that
portion of the District proclaimed in the General Government Gazette of
Thursday, the 23rd July, 1863, as
constituted Company No. 3 of the Napier
Regiment of Militia, not included in
the Notification dated July 27th, 1863,
calling out certain portions of that Com-
pany, published in the Hawke’s Bay
Government Gazette, No. 13,
and I hereby authorise and request George
Stoddart Whitmore, Major, the Officer Com-
manding the said District to carry into ef-
fect this direction.

this 27th day of July, One
thousand, eight hundred and

By virtue and in exercise of the power
and authority for this purpose vested
in me, I, George Stoddart Whitmore, Major,
the officer commanding in the Napier Mili-
tia District, do hereby fix and appoint the
times and places hereunder written to be the
times and places for the training and exer-
cise of such of the men of the first and se-
cond classes of the Napier Regiment of Mili-
tia who are resident within that portion of
the District assigned to Company No. 3, as
is described and called out in this day’s Ga-
zette for exercise and training.

IT is hereby notified for general informa-
tion that the following rules, republish-
ed from the General Government Gazette,
No. 24, are substituted for the notification
in the Hawke’s Bay Provincial Gazette, (in
reference to ballotting) dated July 27, 1863.

By His Excellency Sir George Grey, the
Governor as aforesaid, in execution of the
said recited Act, do hereby make the follow-
ing Rules for the Ballotting of Militiamen;
that is to say,—

The name of each Militiaman liable
to be drawn is to be written on
a separate piece of paper or card
of a uniform size. -
All the pieces of paper or card so
inscribed are to be placed in a bag
together. -
The Officer Commanding in the Dis-
trict, in the presence of a Justice
of the Peace, is to draw from the
bag, one by one, as many pieces of
paper or card as there are Militia-
men required. -
If any Militiamen are drawn and
not liable to serve, from any suffic-
ient reason, the drawing is to
continue until the full number of
serviceable Militiamen is obtained. -
The names so drawn are to be writ-
ten in a list, which list is to be
signed by the Officer Commanding
and the Justice. -
Any Militiamen liable to be drawn
may be present at the drawing.
The officer Commanding in the District
respectively is charged with the execution
of these Rules.
Given under my hand, at the Govern-
ment House, at Auckland, this twenty-third day
of June, in the year of our
Lord, One thousand, eight
hundred and sixty-three.

date hereof the following scale of char-
ges for the store rent of Merchant’s Gun-
powder deposited in the Provincial Maga-
zine will be made:
Per week.
Packages or Barrels measuring under 2½ feet cube..................... 2d
Packages or Barrels exceeding 2½
feet cube and not exceeding 5 feet
cube..................... 4d
Packages or Barrels exceeding 5 feet
cube, per foot cube..................... 1½d
