WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled "The Provincial Elections Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent of each Province to appoint such persons as he may think fit to be Returning Officers for the purposes of the said Act:

NOW THEREFORE, I, THOMAS GORE BROWNE, the Superintendent of the said Province of Hawke's Bay, in exercise of the power and authority in me vested by the said Act, do hereby appoint

JOHN CURLING, ESQUIRE,

to be a Returning Officer for the said Province of Hawke's Bay, for the purposes of the said Act.

Given under my hand, and issued at the Superintendent's Office, at Napier, this thirtieth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-one.
