His Honor the Deputy-Superintendent directs the publication of the following Report of Examination of Pupil Teachers and Candidates.
A. C. KNIGHT,
Minister for Education.
Education Office,
Christchurch, July 26, 1875.
A. C. Knight, Esq., Minister for Education.
Sir,
I have the honour to submit the results of the Examination of Pupil Teachers and Candidates, held in the Durham Street Schoolroom, June 29th and 30th, and July 1st.
Seventy-one presented themselves for examination. Of these 44 were candidates:
11 took the examination for the end of First year, 11 for the end of Second year, and 5 for the end of Third year.
As this is a Supplementary Examination, and many who either failed or lost a year at the last examination were allowed to try again, the standard has been kept fully as low as that of the last examination. One half marks has constituted a pass.
Several have passed the Examination and have been classed who are not of age to take office. I should recommend that they be allowed to accept appointments as soon as they reach the prescribed age without re-examination.
Some important points in connection with the Pupil Teachersโ Syllabus, Work, and Examination, I hope to embody in a Special Report.
I very much regret that illness has caused a long delay in presenting these results.
I have the honour to be Sir,
Your obedient servant,
HENRY W. HAMMOND,
Inspector of Schools.
