PURSUANT to the provisions of the Auctioneers Ordinance, Session III., No. 8, I hereby give notice that the under-mentioned persons have taken out Auctioneers’ Licenses for the period ending 30th June, 1876:—

REGULATIONS for the Management of the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Barbadoes street, Christchurch:—

  1. The Managers appointed by the Superintendent under “The Cemetery Reserve Management Ordinance, 1870,” shall have the entire control and management of the said cemetery.

  2. The Cemetery shall be divided into burial plots. A plan of the cemetery shall be made showing the plots as laid off, each plot having a separate number.

  3. Every grave shall be at least five feet in depth, and in the event of a greater depth being desired, an extra charge of two shillings and sixpence shall be made for every additional foot.

  4. Persons desirous of obtaining an exclusive right for twenty-five years in any plot of ground in the cemetery for the purpose of making a grave or vault or erecting monuments, may do so at the rate of ten shillings and sixpence per square yard, or the said plot may be bought in perpetuity for the sum of twenty shillings per square yard, each plot of ground, however, shall be used only for interment according to the laws of the Roman Catholic Church.

  5. Applications for plots of ground may be made to the managers or the secretary or other person authorised by them to receive the same.

  6. All railings or erections of any kind, together with monuments and inscriptions thereon, to be approved of by the managers.

  7. A book shall be kept in which shall be entered the number of any plot sold, the name of the purchaser thereof, and the date of sale. A register shall also be kept of all burials in the Cemetery, which register shall be open for the inspection of the public on payment of a fee of one shilling for each inspection, if a certified copy of entry be required, the fee shall be two shillings and sixpence.

  8. No purchaser of right of burial in perpetuity shall convey, assign, or transfer such right without the sanction of the managers having been first obtained, and in the event of any such transfer, a fee of ten shillings shall be paid to the Managers.

  9. In all cases of intended interment, the person having the management or control of the same shall apply to the Sexton or other duly authorised person, for a warrant for such interment, which warrant shall be granted upon payment of the following fees, viz.:

Attendance and dressing 5 0

Under ten years of age 5s. less.
Re-opening a grave or vault, 20s.

  1. The whole or a part of the foregoing costs or charges may be remitted on proof being given to the satisfaction of the managers, or person deputed by them, that the person for whom application for interment is made was a pauper at the time of his or her death, and that there are not sufficient funds available for the purpose, and that no person is liable for the payment of such costs or charges.

  2. Orders for interment must be given twenty-four hours prior to the time fixed for the interment.
