And whereas a petition from the rate-payers of the upper portion of the Ashburton Road District, praying that the upper portion of the said district might be formed into a separate Road District, was referred by me to the Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury for their consideration, and the said Provincial Council did by resolution decide that such portion of the said Ashburton Road District should be severed from the said Ashburton Road District and constituted into a separate district:

Now, therefore, I, WILLIAM ROLLESTON, the Superintendent of the said Province, in pursuance and exercise of the powers so vested in me as aforesaid, and by and with the advice and consent of my Executive Council, do hereby declare that all that portion of the Ashburton Road District described in the Schedule hereto shall be severed from the said Ashburton Road District, and shall be constituted into a new district under the name of the "Upper Ashburton District," from and after the date hereof.

Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this 10th day of July, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five.

SCHEDULE.

ASHBURTON ROAD DISTRICT.

The Ashburton District comprises that portion of the Province bounded on the north-eastward by the South Rakaia District; on the north-westward by the Upper Ashburton District; on the south-westward by the Rangitata; and on the south-eastward by the sea.

HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that in pursuance of the powers vested in him by "The Education Ordinance, 1875," he has been pleased to appoint

to be Secretary for Education. The appointment to date from the 1st instant.

CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL.

THE City Council of Christchurch hereby give notice that it is their intention to consider a proposition to borrow a sum of Nine Thousand Pounds (£9000), such amount being required to meet the expenses of the works in connection with the Drainage of the City, which will be undertaken during the present year. The said amount to be raised on Debentures, value £50 each, bearing interest at six per cent. per annum, issued for term of fifty years, on the security of a special rate of one penny in the £ on the rateable property in the City, which rate will provide the said interest and a sinking fund, as by "The City of Christchurch Loan Act, 1871," required.

The interest will be payable half-yearly, and the principal at the time specified in the Debentures, at the offices of the City Council, Christchurch.

PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by a Proclamation dated the 10th day of July, 1875, I, William Rolleston, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in pursuance of the powers vested in me by "The Canterbury Roads Ordinance, 1872," did declare that a portion of the Ashburton Road District as therein described should be severed from the said Ashburton Road District, and constituted into a separate district:

Now, therefore, I, WILLIAM ROLLESTON, the Superintendent as aforesaid, do hereby declare that the district specified in the Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be a newly constituted Road District under the said Ordinance, from and after the date hereof.

Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this 10th day of July, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five.

UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD DISTRICT.

The Upper Ashburton District comprises that portion of the Province bounded on the north-westward by the Mount Somers and South Rakaia Districts; on the south-westward by the Rangitata; on the south-eastward by the present line of railway and the Town of Ashburton; and on the north-eastward by the South Rakaia District.

LATE OF DUVAUCHELLE’S BAY.

TAKE NOTICE, that I desire boundary fences dividing our freehold lands, along the western boundary of your Sections Nos. 20408 and 20411, for a distance of about sixty chains; also, along the southern boundary of your Section No. 20410, commencing at the south-west corner, running a distance of about twenty-five chains westward, be made immediately, and that such fences shall be sod walls, thirty-four inches high, five stakes to the chain, straining and running posts where required, with two No. 9 wires, properly strained.
