  16. Find the compound interest on £10,000 for 3 years, at 8 per cent. per annum?

  17. The number of children attending school on five days in succession was 184, 169, 180, 191, 171; what was the average attendance for the five days? If the attendance on the last day had been 81 instead of 171, how would that affect the average?

  1. Parse fully each word in the following passage:—

    I wish I had a cottage snug and neat
    Upon the top of many-fountained Ide,
    That I might thence, in holy fervour, greet
    The bright-gowned morning tripping up her side;
    And when the low Sun’s glory-buskined feet
    Walk on the blue wave of the Ægean tide,
    Oh! I would kneel me down, and worship there
    The God who garnished out a world so bright and fair?

  2. What distinction is to be observed in the use of the two words “my” and “mine”?

  3. Use the word “singing” in three different sentences; in the first as a verbal noun, in the second as an adjective, in the third as a participle with an auxiliary verb.
