Woodend ... November 8 ... Present 84 ... The increased attendance exceeds the size of the new schoolroom; a number of younger children are taught in the chapel on the same site. The order and progress are creditable.

Mount Grey Downs ... Inspected November 7 ... Present 53 yesterday, 56; the attendance is 23¼ per cent. greater than that of last quarter; order, fair; Daily and Summary Registers satisfactory. A clock and a time table are essential to regularity in the school work; it is impossible to carry out a good course without them. There is no Visitor’s Book.

Kaiapoi Church School ... November 8, inspected in passing; on roll 89 ... Present 58. Below the average of 79; order, good.

Kaiapoi Wesleyan School ... November 8, inspected in passing; on roll 79 ... Present 49. Below the average 67; order, good.

Rangiora Girls’ ... November 12 ... Present 44 ... Organisation defective; the school split up into too many little classes. Attainments, fair; but improvable with more system.

Rangiora Boys’ ... November 12 ... Present 61 ... In good order.

Fernside ... November 15 ... Present 56 ... Satisfactory.

Rangiora Boys’ ... November 19 ... Present 70 ... Satisfactory. Organisation and discipline superior.

Mandeville ... November 20 ... Present 24 ... (Sickness); below average. School very backward as yet; progress, slow.

Cust ... November 21 ... Present 54 ... Satisfactory.

Stoke ... November 21 ... Present 37 ... Considerably improved.

West Eyreton ... November 22 ... Present 8 ... (Sickness); average, 20; highest average, 26; highest number enrolled, 31; on roll, 28; three having left. Arrangements at present incomplete; blinds wanted; well dry; no Visitor’s Book.

Eyreton ... November 22 ... School closed on account of sickness.

Pigeon Bay ... November 26 ... School dismissed.

Akaloa ... November 27 ... Present 20 ... Averages uncertain (?) register incomplete as to totals and averages; “Summary Register” not kept. Children very backward at present, the teacher having only recently been appointed.

Okain ... November 28 ... Present 43 ... Very satisfactory.

Akaroa ... November 29 ... Present 54 ... Considerably improved, but still rather imperfect in general knowledge. Registers satisfactory; order, fair; no Visitor’s Book.
