PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, intituled "The Canterbury Roads Ordinance, 1872," it is among other things enacted that if a majority of the ratepayers of any portion or portions of any district, or two or more contiguous districts (such portions adjoining each other, and together forming one contiguous area), shall petition the Superintendent that such portion or portions shall be severed from its or their existing district or districts, and formed into a separate Road District or annexed to an adjoining or contiguous district, it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, if he shall think fit so to do, to refer any such petition to the Provincial Council for their consideration, and the Provincial Council may by resolution decide that any such portion or portions shall be severed from its or their existing district or districts, and constituted into a separate district, or annexed to an adjoining or contiguous district, as the case may be; and thereupon the Superintendent shall by Proclamation declare that such portion or portions shall be severed from such district or districts and constituted into a new district under such name as shall seem fit, or annexed to such adjoining or contiguous district from a date to be fixed in such Proclamation:
And whereas a petition from the ratepayers of the southern portion of the Malvern Road District, praying that the southern portion of the said district might be formed into a separate Road District, was referred by me to the Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury for their consideration, and the said Provincial Council did by resolution decide that such portion of the said Malvern Road District should be severed from the said Malvern Road District and constituted into a separate district:
Now, therefore, I William Rolleston, the Superintendent of the said Province, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in me as aforesaid, and by and with the advice and consent of my Executive Council, do hereby declare that all that portion of the Malvern Road District described in the Schedule hereto shall be severed from the said Malvern Road district, and shall be constituted into a new district under the name of the "South Malvern District," from and after the date hereof.
Given under my hand this seventeenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three.

SCHEDULE
South Malvern Road District
The South Malvern District comprises that portion of the Province commencing at a point on the north bank of the Wakaepa branch of the River Selwyn, the same being the southernmost corner of run, No. 41; thence north-easterly, following the eastern boundary of that run to the Auchen Lower Road; thence following a straight line to the south-western corner of section 3719, thence in a straight line to the north-east corner of section 10759, thence in a straight line to the north-west corner of section 3107, where it joins the river, and from thence returning along the northern bank of the Wakaepa river before-mentioned to the commencing point.
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS by a Proclamation dated this 17th day of January 1873, I, William Rolleston, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in pursuance of the powers vested in me by "The Canterbury Roads Ordinance, 1872," did declare that a portion of the Malvern Road District as therein described should be severed from the said Malvern Road District, and constituted into a separate district:
Now, therefore, I William Rolleston, the Superintendent as aforesaid, do hereby declare that the district specified in the Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be a newly constituted Road District under the said Ordinance, from and after the date hereof.

SCHEDULE
Malvern Road District
The Malvern District comprises that portion of the Province bounded on the north by the Upper Waima-kariri District, on the eastward by the Waimakariri and also by the East Malvern District, on the southward by the South Malvern District and the River Wakaepa branch of the Selwyn, and on the westward by a straight line drawn from the southern end of Lake Lyndon to the junction of the aforesaid branch of the Selwyn with a creek running from the Thirteen-Mile Bush.
