INSPECTOR’S MONTHLY REPORT.
TO THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD.
SIR,
I have the honour to submit a Summary Report on the schools examined during the month.

Greenpark ... ... Sept. 4 ... Present 22 ... Improving.
Tai Tapu ... ... Sept. 5 ... Present 39 ... Satisfactory.
Lincoln ... ... Sept. 6 ... Present 38 ... Very satisfactory.
Papanui ... ... Sept. 10, 11 ... Present 145 ... The organisation and efficiency are superior. There is an increase of about fifty per cent. in the attendance, although the attendants from the neighbouring districts have returned to their own schools, whose efficiency has also been improved.
Heathcote Valley ... Sept. 12, 13 ... Present 47 ... Improving.
Kaiapoi Island ... ... Sept. 17 ... Present 22 ... Satisfactory.
Templeton ... ... Sept. 20 ... Present 69 ... Satisfactory.
Lower Heathcote ... Sept. 28, 30 ... Present 145 ... The organisation and discipline are superior. The progress since last examination is very creditable.
Weeden ... ... Oct. 4 ... Present 63 ... Improving.
The details of each examination are stated on the “Forms of Report” annexed.
The quarterly examination of candidates for appointments as masters was conducted on the 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th September; the female candidates were examined on October 2nd and 3rd. Two masters obtained certificates; two passed as temporary masters or assistants, six as probationary assistants. One female candidate only succeeded as a mistress, and two as probationers. Further particulars are stated in the special report.
