"Municipal Corporations Act Amendment Act, 1871."
NOTICE
NOTICE is hereby given in accordance with the provisions of the above Act, that the Council of the City of Christchurch intend to divert, alter, and increase the width of that part of Colombo Street, within the City of Christchurch, which is generally known as the "Cathedral Square Roadway," and that the necessary specifications, maps, plans, sections, and elevations, showing the extent of the intended diversion, alteration, and increase of width of the said street have been prepared by the City Surveyor and approved by the Council, and are deposited for inspection at the office of the Council. And notice is hereby given, that all persons affected by the work and undertaking are required by the said Act to set forth in writing, addressed to the Council or the Town Clerk, within forty days from the publication of this notice in the General Government Gazette and the Government Gazette of the Province of Canterbury, all objections which they may have to the said work and undertaking.

PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by an Ordinance enacted by the Lieutenant Governor of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, Session VII., No. 7, intituled "An Ordinance for the Regulation of Prisons," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for His Excellency the Governor, from time to time, as to him shall seem meet, by Proclamation, to declare any house, building, enclosure, or place, to be a Public Gaol; and after the publication of any such Proclamation, such house, building, enclosure, or place, shall be deemed and taken to be a Public Gaol:
And whereas, by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, intituled "The Empowering Ordinance, Session II., No. 2," it is enacted that the powers conferred on the Governors of New Zealand by the above recited Ordinance are, within the limits of the Province of Canterbury, conferred on the Superintendent thereof:
And whereas it is desirable that the building recently erected, partly on Reserve No. 262 (in red), and partly on the land adjoining, at Timaru, in the said Province, should be proclaimed a Public Gaol:
Now, therefore, I, WILLIAM ROLLESTON Superintendent of the said Province, by virtue of the powers vested in me, do hereby proclaim and declare that the building aforesaid shall be deemed and taken to be a Public Gaol.

HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has made the following Reserves, temporarily, under the 19th Clause of the Waste Lands Regulations, viz.:
No. 1370 (in red).—Five acres (more or less), situate in the Oxford District, bounded on the northward by section 4641; on the eastward by the road separating sections 4641 and 4642; on the westward by a line parallel to and 10 chains distant from the eastern boundary; and on the southward by a line at right angles to latter boundary; to include the required quantity. For a Gravel Pit.
No. 1371 (in red).—All that tract of land, one mile wide, the centre line of which commences at the southernmost corner of section No. 4529 on the South Road and Railway Reserve, and runs in a southerly direction until it meets the northwest corner of section No. 3163, situate on the south bank of the Orana river, and more particularly delineated and described on the maps of the Chief Surveyor setting out and describing the land in the Ashburton and Timaru Districts; save and except the land purchased and finally reserved to date.—For a Line of Railway.
