Provincial Notices and Appointments




Now, therefore, I, William Rolleston, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, do hereby make the following Regulations for conducting the Election of Three Members of the Board of Conservators for the said District:—

  1. The person who may be appointed by the Superintendent to conduct the Election, and to whom the Writ of Election shall be directed, shall be present at the time and place named therein as the time and place of election.

  2. Any person entitled to Vote at the Election of a Member or Members of the Board may Nominate a Candidate at the time and place named by the Superintendent as the time and place of Election.

  3. The Returning Officer shall put the name of each Candidate separately to the persons qualified to Vote who may be then present, and shall, unless a Poll is demanded, declare according to the majority of the Votes given upon whom the Election is fallen.

  4. If any Candidate shall demand a Poll the Returning Officer shall hold such Poll forthwith, and close the same at Two o’clock on the same day, and shall conduct the same in accordance with the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Regulation of Elections Act, 1858.”

  5. The person appointed by the Superintendent to conduct the election shall forthwith return the Writ of Election to the Superintendent with the Names of the Persons Elected endorsed thereon.

PROCLAMATION.

I, WILLIAM ROLLESTON, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in pursuance of the powers vested in me by “The Canterbury Rivers Act, 1870,” do hereby appoint William G. Lunn to be the person to conduct the Election of Three Members of the Board of Conservators for the North Rakaia District; and I do hereby fix Friday, the 1st March, 1872, at the hour of 12 noon, at the Road Board Office, as the time and place of such election.

Given at Christchurch, this 22nd day of February, 1872.

DISSOLUTION OF PARTNERSHIP.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Partnership hitherto existing between George Jones, junr., and George Tombs, under the style of “Jones & Tombs,” as General Printers, in Auckland and Christchurch, has this day been dissolved by mutual consent.

All debts due by or to the Auckland branch will be received and paid by the said George Jones, junr.; and all debts due by or to the Christchurch business will be received and paid by the said George Tombs.

SALE OF TOWN AND RURAL LANDS.

HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has fixed THURSDAY, the Fourth day of April, 1872, at the hour of Noon, at a Sitting of the Waste Lands Board, in the Land Office, at Christchurch, as the time and place when a Sale by Auction of Town and Rural Land shall take place, in accordance with Clause 24 and Clause 35 of the Waste Lands Regulations, subject to the usual conditions of sale, and in conformity with the Regulations for the disposal, sale, letting, and occupation of the Waste Lands of the Crown now in force within the Province of Canterbury.

Applications will be received by the Waste Lands Board on and up to Thursday, the Twenty-first day of March, 1872.
