PROCLAMATION.
I, WILLIAM ROLLESTON, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in pursuance of the powers vested in me by “The Canterbury Rivers Act, 1870,” do hereby appoint the Clerk to the Ellesmere Road Board to be the person to conduct the Election of Three Members of the Board of Conservators for the North Rakaia District; and I do hereby fix Friday, the 1st March, 1872, at the hour of 12 noon, at the Road Board Office, as the time and place of such election.

PUBLIC NOTICE.
OKAIN’S BAY ROAD BOARD DISTRICT.
IN PURSUANCE of Clause 68 of “The Roads Ordinance, 1869,” I hereby, with the advice of the Executive Council, call a Meeting of the Ratepayers of the above District for Friday, the First day of March next, at noon, at the Road Board Office, Okain’s Bay, for the purpose of electing a Member to serve on the Board.

the name of such district should be the North Rakaia District, and that the number of conservators of which the Board of the district should be constituted should be five:
Now, therefore, I, William Rolleston, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, do hereby make the following Regulations for conducting the Election of Three Members of the Board of Conservators for the said District:—

The person who may be appointed by the Superintendent to conduct the Election, and to whom the Writ of Election shall be directed, shall be present at the time and place named therein as the time and place of election.

Any person entitled to Vote at the Election of a Member or Members of the Board may Nominate a Candidate at the time and place named by the Superintendent as the time and place of Election.

The Returning Officer shall put the name of each Candidate separately to the persons qualified to Vote who may be then present, and shall, unless a Poll is demanded, declare according to the majority of the Votes given upon whom the Election is fallen.

If any Candidate shall demand a Poll the Returning Officer shall hold such Poll forthwith, and close the same at Two o’clock on the same day, and shall conduct the same in accordance with the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Regulation of Elections Act, 1858.”

The person appointed by the Superintendent to conduct the election shall forthwith return the Writ of Election to the Superintendent with the Names of the Persons Elected endorsed thereon.
