Education Inspector's Report

213

BOARD OF EDUCATION.

QUARTER ENDING JUNE 30, 1871.

INSPECTOR’S QUARTERLY REPORT.

To THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD.

Sir,

I have the honour to submit a Tabular Summary as to the Attendance and Payments, and a Schedule as to the Efficiency of the Schools Examined.

It will be seen from the Tabular Summary that the number of attendants has been 3691, an increase of 621 upon the corresponding quarter of last year; the average daily attendance, 2565, an increase of 576; the amount of school fees, £1206 17s. 8d., an increase of £211 5s. 6d. The increase is greater than usual, because, besides the establishment of several new schools, two large town schools—St. John’s, Christchurch, and the Lyttelton High School—have been added to the list.

It will be seen from the Schedule as to their Efficiency, that the number of schools examined has been 32, including 1210 children; a few of the above and some other schools have received casual visits of inspection.

The improved efficiency and the amount of local interest in the schools are very satisfactory.

I have the honour to be, Sir,

Your obedient servant,

J. P. RESTELL,
Inspector of Schools.
