Christchurch Wesleyan School Aug. 5 ... Present 116 ... The Bible history of three junior classes was inferior to the usual standard of this school; the other subjects were generally satisfactory.
St. Luke’s ... Aug. 18 ... Present 65 ... The discipline has greatly improved; the school is now in complete subordination. The attainments are creditable, not as yet extensive, but fairly accurate in elementary knowledge; the Bible history remarkably good.
St. Andrew’s ... Aug. 19 ... Present 46 ... Satisfactory.
Thomas Martin passed his examination on the 22nd inst., and obtained a certificate of fitness for the Mastership of the Avonside School.

INSPECTOR’S MONTHLY REPORT.
To THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD.
Sir,
I have the honour to submit a Summary Report on the Schools, Candidates, Buildings, and Districts Inspected, Examined, and Visited during the month.
St. Alban’s School ... Aug. 29 ... Present 51 ... The attendance has been reduced by the unfavourable weather and prevalent sickness. There is no provision for warming the larger room; the stove in the smaller stands partly over the floor, litters it with cinders, and endangers it with fire. There is an observable improvement in the discipline and attainments since last examination; its continuance should acquire for this school its proper standard of efficiency.
Christchurch Roman Catholic Boys’ School Aug. 31 ... Present 53 ... Satisfactory.
Christchurch Roman Catholic Girls’ and Infants’ Sept. 1 ... Present 59 ... There is a good supply of books and apparatus, well kept as to tidiness and preservation. The organisation and discipline are superior; the behaviour and order of the children correct and polite. The neatness of the registers and copybooks, and the style of the written papers, are highly commendable; the attainments generally satisfactory.
