NOTICE
His Honor the Superintendent directs
for the publication of the following Notice
for the information of Flax Manufacturers:
The House of Representatives having
resolved that there should be an Exhibition
in Wellington during the next Session of the
Assembly of all Varieties of Flax Fibre
prepared in the Colony, Manufacturers are
invited to forward to the Flax Commissioners,
through His Honor the Superintendent,
Samples of the Fibre, Rope, Sacking, or any
other material prepared by them from the
New Zealand Flax. The Samples of Fibre
should not be less than 20lbs. in weight, and
10 or 15 fathoms of each kind of rope will
be sufficient. It is desirable that a statement of the processes and estimated cost of
manufacture should accompany the samples.

COMMISSIONER’S REPORT
SHIP “ZEALANDIA.”
Having inspected the Immigrant
Ship “Zealandia,” on her arrival
at this Port, I have the honor to report
favorably of the condition of the ship
generally.
The arrangements, cleanliness, and order
of the Single Women’s compartment were
especially commendable.
The Immigrants were unanimous in
speaking favorably of the treatment they
had received during the passage from the
Captain, Surgeon, Superintendent, and
Officers of the ship.
The Matron had discharged her duties in
a manner which reflected on her the
greatest credit, and at the same time
strongly testified to the orderly conduct of
those under her charge.
Provisions of every description were
reported of good quality—sufficient in
quantity and as served out regularly.
The distilling apparatus (Graveley’s) had
worked satisfactorily during the voyage, and
the supply of water had been sufficient and
pure.
I have much pleasure in recommending
the payment of all gratuities.
FREDK. D. GIBSON,
Immigration Commissioner.
