to be an Inspector under "The Thistle Ordinance, 1866," for the Heathcote Road Board District.

NOTICE.

Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, 1870.

WHEREAS a fire, supposed to have been caused by the act of an incendiary, occurred at an early hour on the 26th day of December last, in Cashel street and Colombo street, at Christchurch, in the Province of Canterbury, by which the premises occupied or owned by Messrs. Beath and Co., Lane, Brothers, Pratt, Sutherland, Duncan and Sons, Wood and Cunningham, and Peter Duncan, respectively, were wholly or partially destroyed; and whereas a further attempt was made to burn down the premises of Messrs. Hargood, Brothers, in Colombo street, on the 22nd January, 1870: it is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor will grant a Free Pardon to any accomplice in such acts, or either of them, not being a principal offender, who shall give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the principal offenders.

REMARKS.

A fine dry month, the rainfall being nearly the same as the average fall for the previous five years, viz.:—1·607 inches. A very severe gale from the N.E. was experienced on the morning of the 19th.
