Order in Council at the Provincial Government Buildings, Christchurch, the 22nd day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seventy.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled β€œThe Salmon and Trout Act, 1867,” it is among other things enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor, from time to time, as may become necessary, to make such regulations as to the Governor seems expedient, for prohibiting or restricting from time to time for any period which the Governor thinks necessary, fishing in any river or stream in which young salmon, salmon fry, or spawn, or young trout, trout fry, or spawn is placed or deposited, or at the mouth or entrance of any such river or stream :

And whereas by Section 12 of the said Act, the Governor may, by Order in Council, under his hand, and the public seal of the Colony, from time to time delegate to the Superintendent or the Provincial Executive of any Province, all or any of the powers vested in the Governor, or the Governor in Council by the said Act :

And whereas the said Governor hath, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of New Zealand, delegated to the Executive Government of the Province of Canterbury, all the powers vested in the Governor, or the Governor in Council, by the said Act exercisable within the said Province :

And whereas for the protection of the young trout placed in the upper part of the River Avon and in its tributaries, the Provincial Executive did, by an Order in Council, dated the 24th day of March, 1869, make a regulation prohibiting fishing in that part of the River Avon from its source to the Colombo Street Bridge in the City of Christchurch, and in its tributaries :

And whereas it is expedient to make further provision for the protection of the said trout :

Now therefore the Provincial Executive of the said Province, in pursuance and exercise of the powers delegated to it, doth hereby make the following Regulation:
